    The birth of Egypt's telecommunications industry, and the inauguration of the first telegraph line connecting Cairo and Alexandria.

  • 1881

    Installed the first telephone line between Cairo and Alexandria.

  • 1883

    Extended telephone lines to other Egyptian governorates, namely; Ismailia, Port Said and Suez, Zagazig, Mansoura and Tanta.

  • 1918

    The Egyptian Government nationalized the Eastern Telephone Company, which preceded the establishment of Telecom Egypt, for 755,000 L.E. and turned it into Telephones and Telegraph Authority.

  • 1927

    King Fouad I inaugurated City Exchange in Ramsis st. (previously Queen Nazly st.).

  • 1928

    Markoni Corporation established two wireless stations in Maadi and Abu Za’bal.

  • 1952

    Telecom Egypt landlines reached 62000 lines in Egypt

  • 1957

    Held the first meeting of the Egyptian Wired and Wireless Telecommunications Authority.

  • 1972

    Operated the first international marine cable connecting Egypt and Italy.

  • 1975

    Launched the car wireless phone service in Cairo with a capacity of 160 subscribers. Launched the first microwave network between Cairo, Alexandria and As-Salloum to interconnect the Egyptian governorates.

  • 1978

    Established the first earth satellite station linking in Maadi with an initial capacity of 120 channels.

  • 1985

    Operated the first fiber-optic cable connecting Cairo’s telephone systems.

  • 1986

    Subscribed to the international marine cable that connects Asia, Africa and Europe (SEA-ME-WE 1).

  • 1992

    Launched Internet services in Egypt.

  • 1996

    The first GSM technology for mobile phone was launched through Telecom Egypt.

  • 1998

    Transformed the National Telecommunications Authority into Telecom Egypt, a joint stock company.

  • 1999

    Introduced the Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN), the Intelligent Network (IN) services, and the value added services (VAS).

  • 2002

    Launched the free internet service in Cairo, which was later extended to all Egyptian governorates. Launched the joint initiative “A Computer for Every Home”, sponsored by Telecom Egypt and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.

  • 2003

    Established the largest call center serving Telecom Egypt’s customers across all governorates.Inaugurated the “Phone Boutique” project, that provides manifold services to Telecom Egypt’s customers, and opened 92 branches all over the country.

  • 2005

    The public offering of 20% of the company’s total shares for individuals and institutions through the Egyptian government represented by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.

  • 2006

    Signed a new partnership agreement between Telecom Egypt and Vodafone Egypt to prolong the cooperation agreements between the two parties.

  • 2008

    Purchased around 370,000 shares of Vodafone Egypt increasing Telecom Egypt’s shareholder stake to reach 44.95%.

  • 2009

    Partnered with IMEWE to extend marine cables.

  • 2010

    Telecom Egypt and Alcatel Lucent announced the operation of TE North cable with a capacity of 40 G. /sec. The cable extended across the Mediterranean Sea to provide commercial services using the latest G40 technology system.

  • 2011

    : Developed TE’s marine cable by signing an agreement with Seacom/ TATA “2010”, EIG “2010”, and CYTA “2010”.

  • 2013

    Launched Telecom Egypt’s re-branding project that marked the start of its journey to become an integrated services provider.

  • 2014

    TE celebrates 160 years in the Egyptian market.

  • 2015

    TE, in cooperation with the UNESCO, celebrates the Year of Light and adopting the fiber optics technology, which coincides with the company's implementation of its ambitious plan to change its copper network to a fiber optics network, thus providing better voice services and top Internet speed.

  • 2016

    Telecom Egypt set a Guinness Record for the largest blood donation campaign.
